They are unquestionably fake. It has been announced several times that the style will be cartoony and stylized. Also, there would be a massive media buzz if these were real images!
I’m afraid I’m venturing into non-official waters here but with little news at the moment in regards to The Sims 4 the mind wanders…
One phrase from the development so far has stuck in my head, ‘stylised realism’, first mentioned by concept artist Albert Truong during a live broadcast. From looking around the web it seems that fans are most interested in what the sims themselves will look like in the 4th iteration of the game. My understanding of stylised realism is realism in terms of ‘that is definitely a person’ but with a fun/cartoon-ish twist.
The best contemporary example I can find of it is in the new MMORPG ‘Wildstar’.
This in-game screenshot could almost be taken directly from the Sims 4 eyes picture:
I’d be ecstatic if the sims in The Sims 4 were to look like characters from Wildstar, particularly in the first 2 images as TS4 would be able to achieve better graphics due to it being a large, offline, A+ title.
Nice to see someone who supports and understands the concept of stylized realism. Everyone is so anti-cartoon, and they don’t realize how great the game could look!

The Sims in TS3 have especially rounded and cartoony faces, with little detail and definition. This results in almost every single Sim looking exactly the same, especially if you gave them all the same hair and skin tone. In TS3, children don’t really seem to inherit the features of their parents, because their parents rarely HAVE defining features. Thankfully, it appears that in TS4, Sims will be more distinct and alive!
This date has been added to the “Important Dates” section of the blog!
Here is some more info on TS4 that was revealed on today’s Live Broadcast:
August 20th. I just added an “Important Dates” section to the blog, so thanks!
A member of our community, Quxxn, passed away yesterday afternoon at the age of 25. She had a popular Youtube channel that featured her Sims 3 gameplay and commentary videos. She will be missed.
Yeah, but each LB has been extremely disappointing. I’m not expecting any actual info until the big Gamescom reveal.
I’d say: definitely not. It looks too photo-realistic, and I highly doubt they would make a deal with such a has-been celeb lol
You’re welcome! And thank you!
I would absolutely love a more complex personality system! They definitely need to separate the traits like Evil, Neurotic, and Dramatic from traits like Commitment Issues, Dislikes Children and Loves the Outdoors, which are not really personalities.
But yeah, I really would like the personality points to be brought back, although they should be sliders. I hated how my Sim couldn’t be both outgoing and neat without having to be lazy, because I didn’t have enough points to fill everything. I would like it to be like Create-a-Pet in TS2, but with many more options AS WELL AS personality traits to further customize your Sim:
One feature I would absolutely love in TS4 is layered clothing. Those who played TS2 console games will remember this feature; jackets, sweaters, vests and more could be layered on top of t-shirts, polos, and tanks. This allowed for a much greater level of customization, and every Sim had a unique outfit combination. I sincerely hope they bring this back for TS4!
I’ve also heard news of pre-set outfits and styles for clothes in TS4. I’m really rooting for this feature! In TS2, there were many full-body outfits, but in TS3, there aren’t as many. Personally, I’m not very good at matching a shirt with pants…I’d much rather just select a full outfit!
What do you guys think about layered clothing and styles in TS4?
