Sound FX- Small details enhance the game experience. For example, if your Sim is making a drink poorly, the sound of the ice hitting the glass is harsh. If they make a really great drink, the sound is smooth and pretty.
Pathfinding- Sims will no longer get stuck! They spent a lot of time working on pathing for TS4. Now, if a Sim is blocked by something, they can take a little step to the right or left to go around it! Now TWENTY Sims can cross paths without colliding!
Emotion Powers- Sad Sims do poorly at work, unless they are writers. Flirty Sims can dim the lights by clapping their hands. Emotions are like temporary traits. Emotions can be triggered by dreams!
Needs- No more motive bars. Each need is either green, yellow or red (requires immediate attention).
Animation- Animation is much faster as well as more natural. Actions like sitting and standing will be smooth and fast. If another Sim sits down near a Sim or enters the room, a Sim will turn their head to look at them!
Rocket Ship- It is a reward for the Astronaut Career!
Gardening- It is much more detailed and complex. Fallen fruit can give life to new plants!
Instruments- Piano, guitar and violin skills will be in the game!
Cow Plant- The cow plant now eats emotional states and creates a potion that Sims can drink to change states.
TS4 FAQ Part 2- Mac Version, Create A Style, Hair Dying, and More!
Question:How do boots work in the game?
Answer:In The Sims 4, boots go over or under the pants depending on the kind of pants you are using. The game recognizes the different parts of legs, pants and boots and figures out how boots should be shown. For example, certain boots will go over stretch pants, while they could go under baggy pants.
Question:Is body shape genetic?
Answer:Yes, there’s a good chance to get the same body shape of the parents.
Question:Talking about hairstyles, can we set a color for the roots and another one for the hair tips?
Answer:Not in the base game. We don’t know if this feature will be added later on. At the moment there’s no plan for it.
Question:How do accessories work in CAS? Will we have any?
Answer:Accessories features are great and much better than in the past. You can mix and match as you wish and the jewelry is now completely separate from clothing. In The Sims 3 we had some necklaces attached to the related outfit, but in TS4, they are free.
Question:Will CAST ever be in TS4?
Answer:At the moment we are not planning to add Create a Style in game and we don’t know if this feature will be added later on. We are focusing on making the base game great, stable and powerful. We want The Sims 4 to ship with a very high level of quality and we decided to focus on certain areas.
Question:Will the game come out for Mac or other consoles?
We have some little things like fitness, so sims can naturally change over time in the game,” says The Sims 4’s producer Grant Rodiek. “If they overeat they’ll become overweight. If they never exercise, they might become overweight. But if you eat healthily or eat properly or you exercise, your sims will lose weight.
We have the ability for them to be unhappy about their weight,” says Rodiek. “It’s tricky with the emotional state being based on people’s weight. We want to make sure we’re not making a statement or telling people what’s right or wrong, but you can tell a story with those tools. We give you all the pieces you need to tell that story if you want to do that.
Your sims might react, like, when they get bigger you’ll notice they’ll look at themselves and react. How well we change their emotional state based on it, we don’t want to make a statement about things like that because that’s not our place to do that.
Those who attended Sims Camp cannot reveal any info or images from the Build/Buy master class until September 11th, 9AM PDT. The Animations master class info will be embargoed until September 18th, 9AM PDT.
“Emotions create a cascading set of circumstances for you as a storyteller. For example, previously if a Sim caught their partner cheating, there’d be a short term mood hit and then the whole thing would effectively be dropped. Now they’d be pushed into a powerful emotional state by that – it might cause depression … Everything seems more adaptable, automating some of the time-consuming fiddling. Even decor is dynamically adaptible, if you want it to be; select a kitchen suite from the catalogue and you can buy the entire thing at once, appliances and all, and have it automatically adjust to the size of your room.”—Sims producer Ryan Vaughan
Anyone who's played with cheats and hacks for height editing knows that allowing Sims to have different heights can be problematic graphics wise. It could be a while before we ever see height sliders in a Sims game. They're already letting us mess around with a sim's body type. I don't think they wanna get too ambitious just yet.
It’s also the matter of matching up animations. Imagine Sims kissing who are both different heights…how would their lips match up? It would be impossible to make animations that fit every single height combination. I don’t blame them for not putting in the game, and frankly, I don’t really care about the height of my Sims lol.
I’m really, really happy with what they showed. The game looks beautiful in motion…the animation is silky smooth and just looks fantastic. The Sims look so much better in motion than they do in screenshots! I absolutely LOVE the different races and ethnicities. Even though the LB was short, I’m much more excited for TS4!
The next TS4 live broadcast will be on September 17th!
I noticed in one of the pictures of the muscly guy, above the shirts there was a "remove all" option. Why would there be a "remove all" option for shirts if in the past you could only put one shirt on a sim at a time? Do you think that means the shirts can be layered? OR maybe all clothes have the option of being layered?
You can layer shoes, accessories, hats…etc. Not sure about shirts.
News should be unbiased. I appreciate your opinion, but I feel like you should link to the petition regardless because it relates to Sims 4. You could add a disclaimer to it. I don't necessarily trust the blog and future site as a viable news-source if you are going to hold out on related stuff because of your own viewpoints on it.
Well, my blog actually has nothing to do with fan-created petitions that aren’t going to accomplish anything. The petition exists because people are ignorant to the fact that the CAST will probably be in TS4, and that it isn’t in the demo because they are still focusing on building the core game. Also, my website would have none of my opinions on it…that is what Tumblr is for.
I found a petition on the forums for CASt. Can you please make a post about it. I know the Simblr community could really make a difference with this one. If everyone reblogs and signs, we should be able to get it back.
I think it’s absolutely ridiculous that there is a petition to get a feature added in TS4. First of all, there obviously is a reason that the Create-A-Style Tool won’t be in the TS4. They want the game to run as smoothly as possible, and the tool might not allow for that.
Secondly, they are in the PRE-ALPHA. CAST will probably be in the final game. If it isn’t in TS4, that means it is a good thing. See what I mean?
The Sims 4’s big reveal is coming! Join us on Thursday, August 22 at 8AM PDT for The Sims Live Broadcast coming to you live from the show floor at Gamescom 2013! Tune in to get a first look at The Sims 4 in a worldwide exclusive gameplay demo plus a complete recap of the week’s BIG announcements.
I hate that they put 'depressed' in their game as if it was an temporary emotional state and not the illness it actually is. UGH. Also I'm kind of worried that these emotions will end up with my Sims not wanting to do anything because they're too sad or too bored or something like this. But oh well. I guess the emotions idea by itself is actually pretty good.
They aren’t talking about clinical depression. “Depressed” is a regular and temporary emotional state for many people. Depression is when someone is unable to get out of that emotional state, or experiences it more frequently and heavily than normal.
“The key to ‘The Sims 4’ emotions is that there isn’t anything particularly better or worse," said Pearson. "You have the ability of what to do with that emotion. If your Sim is furious, that may seem like a bad thing, but it actually means they can write a special book or paint a special painting or go for a really good run and have a really great workout.”—'The Sims 4' Adds Emotional, Multitasking Sims - ABC News
Multitasking- Your Sim can hop on the treadmill and watch the home and garden channel on the TV – so she’s gaining a little gardening skill and getting fit on the treadmill at the same time. That Sim can then flirt with another Sim who is nearby, while staying on the treadmill!
Group Controls- Players will now have control over groups of Sims. You can now tell Sims when they’re in groups to do things together. ‘Go over there together,’ or click on a basketball hoop and select ‘shoot hoops together’.
Emotional States- Within each of the emotional states – including happy, sad, inspired and depressed, among others – are a range of nuances that will unlock contextual actions. Sad Sims might be inspired to paint something depressing, while angry Sims might have extra drive when working out! Mood influences Sim behavior and animation as well- the way the Sim gets out of bed, walks, and interacts with other Sims are all affected by mood.
New Buy Mode- Furniture can be purchased through an Ikea-like catalogue, offering a range of items that directly influence how a Sim feels within the environment.
New Build Mode- Just as in the new CAS, you will be able to place a room and drag it around and shape it easily. The new “blocks” system allows for extreme flexibility. You just plop down rooms and pull them apart and shape them as you please. You don’t need to plan a house beforehand; more flexible, and requires less time and patience. You can adjust the pitch, curvature and overhand of roofs! Still no curved walls.
Furniture Influence on Mood- An inspirational painting could boost the creativity of a Sim, while a room decorated with many romantic objects will make Sims feel “flirty”. However, just one romantic candle will not dramatically affect the mood of a Sim…it is more about the overall tone of the room.
New Relationship System- Instead of one relationship bar that slowly increases from friendship to romance, TS4 now has two concurrent bars- romance and friendship. It will be much easier to stay friends with a Sim without delving into romantic territory. This also opens up the possibility for “soul mates”, or two Sims that have maxed out friendship and romance bars!
New Create-A-Sim- Like molding clay, but not as messy. You can even change the way that a Sim walks! Randomization features have been made much more intelligent, so that even randomly selected clothes will match.
Aspiration System- Both short-term and long-term goals, as in TS2. There will be a variety of reward objects, as before.
Active Careers- The core game system allows for events where players can go out and play through certain parts of their Sim’s career. Again, you’ll be interacting with other Sims as well to move up the career ladder. But no going to work with Sims!
Vibrant Neighborhoods– Chose among brilliant and diverse lots for your Sims to live in. Vivid visuals bring your Sim’s home to life. The new neighborhood looks a lot like the Southern US, but more stylized and charming.
Memories- Sims will remember past outfits, relationships and experiences. These memories will have a significant effect on their behavior and mood.
Sound Design- The game has over half a million sound files, and the sound system has gotten a technical overhaul. Sound now has direction; a Sim with his back facing the camera will sound a little muffled when he speaks. Music and sound will even be different depending on the shape of the room. Basically, TS4 has acoustics.
Three Floor Limit- TS4 limits each house and building to only three floors, unlike previous games.
Confirmed Special Objects- Cowplant, rocket ship, voodoo doll
This doesn't look better than sims 3. It looks like a console game... it's going to be outrageously overpriced and ugh. I'm already disappointed :(
I know what you mean. But still, I think this is the direction that The Sims franchise needed to go in. It couldn’t keep getting more realistic…not only is realism kind of anti-Sims, but it simply wouldn’t run on many computers.
For YEARS, Sims fans (including myself) have been clamoring for more of the frivolity and charm that was present in TS1 and some of TS2. While I’m not thrilled with what I’ve seen so far, I can see that EA has decided to return to the roots of The Sims, and hopefully that will be more apparent during gameplay.
I’m going to wait to see videos and hear about game features to reserve judgment, but I am disappointed by some screenshots SO FAR. The renders look great, actually, but actual screenshots of gameplay look pretty terrible. The hair, objects and environment all seem so low-quality, and the Sims themselves are so small and skinny. But seriously, just try to give it a chance for now! :)
TS4 is looking more and more similar to TS2 than TS3, and that makes me SO EXCITED. TS2 Sims, with the right CC, could look as cartoonish or realistic as the player wanted, and with slider options similar to TS3, sim creation possibilities could be VIRTUALLY ENDLESS. Also, is it me, or does it look like there's a height slider?? Ahh!!
I definitely don’t see any evidence of a height slider, unfortunately.
In the picture above, many different Sims are all standing on level ground. The render is clearly supposed to highlight how different Sims can look and act, yet they are all exactly the same height. One Sim is slightly shorter, but she is clearly bending her knees.
I’m not saying that height variation definitely won’t be in the game, but I highly doubt EA would pass on the opportunity to show it off.
