This week, we’re following a young alien couple hiding in plain sight, about to embark on a magical journey.
It was love at first sight for Kristen Dyson and Spencer Jackson. They met outside the new bakery in town and moved in together after a brief courtship. How great it was to be young and in love! The first night in their new home was one of celebratory WooHoo, but they couldn’t stay up too late. They’d recently started new careers – Kristen was a Scientist, and Spencer was a Detective – and they had to be up bright and early for the day ahead. And to think, no one they worked with knew that they were aliens, living in disguise as regular Sims!
A few days later, Kristen felt something odd. She’d started the day in a good mood, but only halfway into her work at the Future Sim Labs she was really tired. She knew she wasn’t sick. This felt… different. Could this be what she thought it was? After work, she told Spencer the good news: she was pregnant! He had a surprise for her as well: so was he!
A few days later they both had visible belly bumps. A loving couple, pregnant with each other’s alien babies – how joyous. Now they were able to share every uncomfortable, waddling step of this miracle together.
Before they got too big, they wanted to travel back to their home world to share the big news with some of their own kind. Lucky for them, Kristen had just recently brought home an Electroflux Wormhole Generator from work, so it wasn’t difficult for the duo to travel light-years away to visit the planet Sixam. Once they passed through the portal they were able to freely drop their Sim disguises to hang out with their alien buddies. Their friends on Sixam were overjoyed with the news, and looked forward to having more aliens they could discuss those weird human foods with.
A few days later, Kristen and Spencer started getting so big they looked like they could pop at any moment. What would they do if they both went into labor at the same time?
When the big day finally came, it was Kristen who went into labor first! Luckily, a new hospital had just opened up in their town, so they rushed Kristen to the emergency room to let the professionals (with their high tech robot machines) deal with it. Once they were there, Spencer realized that their alien origin was safe – the doctor, too, was an alien in disguise. They knew they were in good hands.
Everything went perfect for mom and Myra, the couple’s new baby girl. They went straight home to start cooing and cuddling, but just as they got settled, it was Spencer’s turn! Luckily, Spencer had been planning for a home birth, so he was ready to take care of business himself. What he wasn’t planning for, though, was twins. Two beautiful, perfect, green, alien children: Kaloy and Sodi.
Once the three children were asleep, Kristen and Spencer went right to bed. They’d had quite the busy day! And now that their household more than doubled in size, they’ll surely have plenty more ahead of them…
This week, we’re following an up-and-coming entrepreneur hoping to make her mark as a retail business owner in The Sims 4 Get to Work.
Sarah’s Bakery was failing. Badly. She’s was losing Simoleons on it every day, she was overworked, and she hadn’t found the time to leave her store in days. But today was the day she would turn things around.
She woke up bright and early in the small room she had built above her bakery. It was pretty basic – a bed, a bathroom, and a small kitchen – but it let her take care of immediate needs when she was too tired to head home after a long day of work. She would eventually have to go to her real house to pay her bills, but this little home away from home lets her start her day earlier (and end it later).
She made a few pies and brought them downstairs, putting them on shelves around the room. She looked around her shop, letting it all soak in. Her bakery was awful. It wasn’t cute or fun, or anything a bakery is supposed to be. If she wanted to succeed, she needed to expand and get creative!
Though her business was failing, she had saved up just enough Simoleons to make some changes. She grew her shop downward, adding a basement to her building and filling it with the fixings of a proper bakery: tables, ovens, and – of course – a cupcake machine, which she used to make a variety of awesome sweet and savory creations. Her garden let her include some fresh ingredients too – things the Sims coming in wouldn’t be able to resist. By the time she was done, she’d become better at baking, and learned a few new cool recipes.
Now she needed to change the look of her bakery to make it more appealing to potential customers. So she made another change, splitting her store down the middle. One side was painted pink, with cute decorations and all of the sweet baked goods she could create. On the other, things became darker and more savory, with Crab Cakes, Artisanal Herb Bread, and other flavorful goods. She stood in the middle of her larger, more impressive shop. This was good. This was very good! But now that her shop looked great, and was filled with great stuff, Sarah knew she’d need some help.
She looked through a list of potential hires. A few were great at sales, others better at cleaning and restocking, and some were more hardworking. She hired a cheerful Sim named Melissa and gave her a brand new uniform. Everyone who came in was met with a smile, and left with a handful of Sarah’s baked goods. As the day went on, Melissa got faster and faster (and made Sarah more and more money). Sarah’s new baked goods were flying off the shelves thanks to Melissa. Her investment was well worth it! Melissa was so good that Sarah needed to hit the floor herself, restocking her pies and cupcakes as Melissa rung people up on her tablet.
At the end of the day she walked over to the cash register and looked at her earnings. She’d made enough to give Melissa a well-deserved raise – which she knew would keep her happy – and her business was successful enough to upgrade. A big, neon sign was placed above the door: talk about a perk!
What a difference a day makes. When she woke up she was struggling to make ends meet in a failing bakery, and now her shop was the talk of the town. Who knows what tomorrow might bring. She could hire another employee, add another level (or two) to her store. Maybe she would open a different type of store entirely – one that sells pictures of wooden figures. She wasn’t sure, but she was excited to find out!
This April, your Sims will rule the workplace in The Sims 4 Get to Work Expansion Pack. You will control your Sims’ every action as they tackle three active careers, whether it’s saving lives as a daring doctor, solving crimes as a fearless detective, or creating inventions as a mad scientist. You will also be able to put your Sims’ entrepreneurial ambitions to the test as you create and customize unique retail businesses. Plus, there are new venues, more skills to learn, and the chance to befriend some aliens!
SimGuruBChick has confirmed that EA is “looking at story progression and how we can improve the experience. There are a lot of tuning tweaks and added functionality that is involved. While we can’t announce anything yet, we are looking at it.”
Hopefully it arrives sometime this year!
For the time being, I’ve been entering Manage Worlds, downloading families off The Gallery, tweaking them to my liking in CAS, and then plopping them in empty houses and lots around town. The Gallery makes it pretty easy to re-fill your town in only a few minutes.
Hey Simmers,
March is upon us, Get to Work is pushing against the door, and the color green shall soon reach a pinnacle of popularity, if only for a day. And we have an update ready to release.
It’s a small update that fixes a few crashes for Mac and PC that the community has helped us track down and reproduce. And a little bit of content.
What’s new? It’s St. Patrick’s Day or St. Paddy’s Day, (as I learned this week, it’s not St. Patty’s… who knew?)! Top off your Sim with a bit o’tha green by plopping on a new hat for your male and female Sims, found in Create a Sim. And a new gnome has joined us! Search for the Bare Essentials Gnome to adorn your abode.
Thank you all for the save files, feedback, and help we get in narrowing down issues, and improving on The Sims 4 experience for everyone!
This week we’re looking into the lives of two scientists in The Sims 4 Get to Work.
Each day, Darla Nadine Applesworth arrives at the science lab at 7:00 a.m. She loves her job, but she loves something else even more: her co-worker and fellow scientist, Herbert Leipstein. Herbert likes Darla, but truly only thinks of her as a friend and colleague. She wishes it was different. Maybe one day, it will be.
Darla likes to get a jump start on the day, working on new inventions by herself before anyone else gets in. Her hard work has paid off – she invented the Momentum Conserver and a Hover Lamp, both of which she took home to display as decorations.
One morning, Darla was experimenting and using the Chemical Analyzer when she had a breakthrough. She ran over to the Invention Constructor and began tinkering. Tah-dah! The Cloning Machine was created!
Herbert arrived a few minutes later, looking as handsome as ever in his lab coat. Darla was thrilled to show Herbert her latest invention.
He steps into the machine with a huge grin on his face. Darla begins scanning and BOOM! A clone of Herbert steps out. The new Herbert looks exactly the same as Herbert. It was Darla’s lucky day – two Herberts! They named the clone Number One.
Number One was almost exactly the same as the original Herbert except for one key difference: he didn’t have any relationships or knowledge of this world. He was a clean slate. Darla and Herbert introduced themselves to Number One and had him wait in the lab next door, giving him some activities to do to keep him busy.
Darla and Herbert wasted no time. They made another clone. And another. The final clone, Number Five, was a little different. He had red eyes and a goatee. Something was… off.
Oh well. Time to leave work!
Darla walked into the lab next door and told the clones they were coming home with her. She couldn’t leave them at the lab overnight, they could get into real trouble. Plus, Darla liked the idea of having five replicas of Herbert hanging out at her house all night.
Back at her home, they decided to have a party. It was everything Darla had hoped for… until Number Five started yelling and making a mess all over Darla’s house. This wasn’t right! This wasn’t what she expected at all.
The next morning, Darla found a new home for her failed experiments. She was done with cloning (and with love) for a while. She decided to focus on her career and discover the next big scientific breakthrough. Who knows where that might take her…
We hope you have enjoyed this peek at the Scientist career and a bit of a love story.
The March 31st date was accidentally leaked by EA, but they have continued to mention an April release date. Since the exact date hasn’t been announced, all we know is that it will arrive by April 30th, which is why some retailers have set that as their date. Don’t worry, I’m sure we’ll get an exact date soon enough!
Q: With the introduction of Hospitals we see Illnesses make a return, Can our Sims catch these diseases?
A: Sims don’t have to be working in the Doctor career to see illness symptoms. Any Sim can catch an illness; mainly, this is done through physical interactions with other Sims. You will be able to see if your Sim is ill by different buffs they get and by how they look in the game.
Q: Sims can now Deliver Babies, Does this mean Sims around Town will Start having children?
A: As Sims progress through the Doctor career, they will unlock the ability to see pregnant patients and deliver their babies. The Hospital does spawn NPC pregnant Sims as well, so you’ll see them walking around in the game. As a player, if your Sim is pregnant and ready to give birth, you’ll need to select the interaction to give birth at the Hospital.
Q: Can Sims visit the Hospital to see family And have checkups or do they have to work in the medical career?
A: Sims who are not in the Doctor career are not able to visit the Hospital. The only Sims who are able to go to the Hospital while not in the Doctor Sims are pregnant Sims (and their significant other) when they are ready to give birth. If your Sim gets sick, medicine can be ordered by phone or on the computer.
Q: When our Sims go into labor does an NPC Doctor deliver our baby?
A: Yep, when pregnant Sims go into labor, an NPC Doctor will deliver their baby.
Q: The chance to run businesses has returned and it looks great! Will our Sims be Able to run Home Businesses?
A: Retail lots in The Sims 4 Get to Work dictate where Sims can open up a business. Sims can stay at their store and take care of their basic needs as long as they desire but will need to return home for much of the gameplay that’s centered on their household.
Q: With the return of Bakeries can our Sims also Run Restaurants?
A: TheSims 4 Get to Work focuses on opening up a retail business where you can sell anything you can make in the game, from toilet paper to cupcakes. The focus is on selling items, rather than providing services.
Q: Can we sell ANY item?
A: Your Sims can sell anything they can make, as well as a vast majority of the items available in buy mode. Sims who paint on the easel can sell their works of art. Sims who desire to open up a store that only sells furniture, can do so.
Q: Can we set Employee Uniforms?
A: Absolutely! This is one of my favorite aspects of the retail side of Get to Work.
Q: Will Sims pay for items at the register or do they just take the item?
A: Sims won’t just take the item, no – they’ll be assisted by an employee to purchase items.
Q: How do Mannequins work?
A: You can customize outfits from the clothing in-game and dress up both adult and child mannequins. They can have up to 30 unique outfits assigned to them that customers can try on and purchase.
Q: Will this Pack be introducing any new collectibles?
A: Yes! There are new rocks, flora, and fauna to collect, and they’re out of this world!
Q: In the trailers we see new areas in which are the Hospital and Police department, is this a new world or are Willow creek and Oasis springs having an expansion?
A: Rather than taking your Sims to a new world, The Sims 4 Get to Work integrates new environments into the existing worlds in The Sims 4. The Sims 4 Get to Work also includes an entirely new neighborhood, Magnolia Promenade, which is made up of four new lots, three of which are retail. You can create retail lots in the existing neighborhoods or move existing venues into the new neighborhood. It’s all up to you! You can even live right next door to your retail store.
Q: What can you tell us that we don’t already know about Get to work yet?
A: We’re really excited about the new photography skill in The Sims 4 Get to Work. We’re introducing cool new filters and other modern features such as a Smart Phone camera, the ability to choose between horizontal or vertical shots, a photography studio object to take group shots, and more!
