Q:Those screenshots...if that's not cartoony, then perhaps I know nothing anymore. Maybe use the word "zany"? I thought Sims2 was cartoonish but I feel even that was more realistic looking than this. Thoughts?
It’s definitely cartoony. I just don’t mind it haha. The Sims 2 beta had the best graphics in my opinion, and it was never released. TS4 really looks like The Sims 2 beta, so I’m pumped.
Interview with Rachel Franklin, Executive Producer on The Sims 4
XGN releases an interview with Rachel Franklin this week.
In the interview she talks about how the art style for The Sims 4 is stylized (not cartoony) and about including fan feedback into what gets added to the game. Which sounds good except a lot of what we’ve seen does look cartoony (even if it’s stylized) and feedback regarding CASt didn’t exactly turn out in the fans favor either.
Which is fine — those decisions might very well be the absolute right choices for The Sims 4 — but when they say one thing and do the exact opposite it’s no wonder fans seem to have such little faith in EA.
Here are a few quotes from the interview:
We’re lucky that we have fans that are so vocal and so open and supportive of us. And by supportive I mean they don’t just tell us, “Oh, everything is great.” They tell us, “Hey we really need this and we want you to change this” and we try to listen to that. By bringing them in early it allows us to respond to what they’re having to say and so that we can take that into account as we’re choosing what features to put into the game.
I wouldn’t call it cartoony; the art style is definitely stylized. But for us, The Sims is always a mixture of being realistic enough for you to relate to your Sim, for you to believe that they’re actually having a conversation and, and drinking their coffee which is something brand new in The Sims 4, is multitasking.
But your ability to relate to them as real living little beings at the same time it’s important for us to allow the player to experiment and its kind of, it can be a little weird to experiment on something that’s too, too realistic-looking.
So for us it’s important to strike that balance between understanding that they’re virtual, little people, but making them realistic enough where you feel something for them.
Motives are still an essential part of a Sim’s daily life.
Q:Uhm why.. why does the picture say sims 3 into the future?? Ya know in the left bottem coner
It’s from a presentation about the expansion pack, but it is a picture of TS4, don’t worry!
New pic of TS4!
Q:When is TS4 coming out?
No set release date yet, but it should arrive in fall 2014.
The Sims 4 News from Twitter
Confirmed: Nothing new for the next few months
Rachel Franklin confirms the speculation, it will indeed be months before we can expect anything new in regards to The Sims 4.
And there isn’t much Graham Nardone can talk about Sims 4 wise these days but he is looking into whether or not the press images from the magazine previews can be shared. It’s nothing new but better quality pictures of the concept art would be welcome nonetheless.
It’s not what I wanted to hear, of course, but at least we know.
@darraghkavo we’re heads down working on the game. Give us a few more months. I promise you it’ll be worth it!— Rachel Franklin (@SimGuruRachel)— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham)
@honeywellsnews I’ve been looking in to this for you btw, if anything changes I’ll let you know.— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham)
There are 2 ways you can take the lack of new Sims 4 information.
The developers are so hard at work on the game that they don’t have time to talk about it with the fans. They’re so focused on making the perfect game that they don’t want to reveal anything before it is 100% polished and beautiful.
There is no marketing department. The marketing staff for the game were made to participate in a Hunger Games style tournament designed to find the best person to sell the game. None survived.
Can we have a moment of silence for our fallen comrades?
It definitely isn’t #1. There is no way that EA “doesn’t have time to talk about it with the fans.” They are a multi-billion dollar corporation, they could afford to hire a few people to run some social media sites for TS4. It has to be #2.
