EA Takes No Responsibility for the State of The Sims 4, Blames Players Instead

The Sims was mentioned on last Thursday’s EA quarterly earnings call, and what they said was quite interesting.

The speaker on the call describes last year’s sales of The Sims 4 as “a little slow”, but reminds everyone that “the strength of The Sims franchise is the layering in of expansion packs.” He notes that expansions bring in a ton of revenue and “bring people into the core game.”

He then describes the “situation” EA was in last year. Though in reality most players were unhappy with the state of the game (it seemed unfinished, it was and still is missing huge chunks of core gameplay…etc.), he ignores all of that and describes it as a situation where “many consumers were comparing the original Sims 4 game to The Sims 3 game with a long series of expansion packs.”

As we heard from Peter Moore, EA’s stance on the widespread disappointment with The Sims 4 seems to be that players set themselves up for failure by expecting The Sims 4 base game to have as much content as The Sims 3 and all of it’s expansion and stuff packs. Moore said that Simmers quickly “forget” that it took over five years to accumulate all of the content they had in The Sims 3.

The Sims 4 Cool Kitchen Stuff is Coming on August 11th

Does your Sim spend their free time making hearty breakfasts, luscious lunches, and delightful dinners? Good news: it’s time for dessert! The Sims 4 Cool Kitchen Stuff is coming on August 11 and it’s perfect for all of your foodie Sims!

Cool Kitchen Stuff has everything you need to upgrade your Sim’s kitchen, with new, sleek appliances and furnishings meant to help give the room a modern flare. From stylish cabinets with frosted glass doors to new stainless steel appliances, the stuff pack is filled with awesome new items to totally reinvent your Sim’s kitchen. Your Sims will look good as they create new delicacies thanks to new hairstyles and apparel perfect for any chef-to-be.

But besides making things look cooler, your Sims will also have a lot more cool stuff to do in the kitchen (pun intended). With the new Ice Cream Maker, your Sim can make ice cream, gelato, or soft serve! Better yet, your Sims will be able to garnish their ice cream with a variety of toppings. Banana slices, whipped cream, sprinkles and more – your Sim’s sweet tooth will be fulfilled. There are 30 flavors to create, some of which might leave your Sim with… unusual abilities.

Oh, and before you start to worry about all the dirty dishes these new creations will make, you should know about something else. The week before The Sims 4 Cool Kitchen Stuff releases, a dishwasher will be added to The Sims 4 for free in an Update for all players!

The Sims 4 Cool Kitchen Stuff releases worldwide on August 11 – are your Sims ready to scream for ice cream?

The Sims 4: Removed Traits & Aspirations

PeterSims has compiled a list of “Traits and Aspirations removed from The Sims 4 early in development. A few traits in this list were merged with similar traits and others were removed due to constraints or to comply with the ESRB/PEGI rating standard.”

It’s a shame, a lot of these seem pretty cool!

My favorites are Magnetism, Teleporter, and Hypochondriac! The Tranquility aspiration also looks pretty cool. Which of these traits do you wish had made the cut?

Gameplay Trailer Clarification

  • Autonomy was turned off, which is why controlled Sims stood around until Graham ordered them around.
  • You can pull the width of the stairs the same way you do with rooms.
  • The Sims’ head in the center of the pie menu has been replaced with a button that goes back to the previous menu. It is similar to “More Choices” at the top of the pie menu.
  • Auto-save cannot be disabled, but it runs in the background and will not interfere with gameplay.
  • Satisfaction Points are like the Lifetime Happiness points from TS3. You build them up to unlock rewards for your Sims. Aspirations are rewarded with Traits and some one time benefits. There are TONS of reward objects elsewhere.
  • There are no vampires in TS4.
  • There is no repo man in TS4.
  • The three clouds floating over the Sims’ profile were Whims. One Whim is based on the Sims’ current emotion.
  • There is a full world map, it just wasn’t in the video.
  • Party goals are optional.
  • The traditional info panels are all in the bottom right corner (Aspirations, Needs, Skills, Relationship, Career, Inventory, Simology).
  • A lot of the visual information that moodlets are communicating has been changed since the E3 build. Emotion strength of a moodlet will show exact numbers instead of vague dots (easier to understand why your Sim is in their current emotion). The green plusses above the moodlets were swapped to a gradient fade.
  • Sims still have motives. They are: Energy, Hunger, Bladder, Hygiene, Fun, and Social.
  • Parties cannot be scheduled in advance anymore.
  • A bar appears during a conversation that shows the relationship between both Sims as well as each Sims’ emotion.
  • The death by laughter at the end was tweaked with dev mods. It will be much harder to bring on emotional deaths in the game.

The Official Gameplay Walkthrough Trailer is here! Enjoy guys!
